The beach is one of the preferred holiday destinations for the summer for Valencians and the fact that it’s clean is one of the main factors when it comes to choosing one. This data comes from a study carried out by Ecovidrio regarding “New habits of Valencians on the beach and sustainability during the summer” according to which, for more than 90% of the citizens of Valencia, one of the most determining factors when it comes to choosing a beach to go to is that both the sand and the water are free of waste.

Valencians are increasingly demanding cleaner and more sustainable holiday destinations, which is why they consider it to be very important for beach bars to be eco-friendly. This means a correct waste management, a responsible use of resources and integrating the facilities with the environment.

After cleanliness (9,27 points), other aspects that Valencians take into account include safety and rescue equipment (8,20 points), crowdedness (8 points), accessibility (7.65 points), available showers (7,53 points) or the quality of the sand (7,49 points).

Another significant piece of data that proves how important sustainability is nowadays for Valencians is the fact that 6 out of 10 survey respondents state that they pick up and toss out any waste they find on the beach into its corresponding container.

Toma nota, recicla vidrio

This study has been carried out in order to prepare the fourth edition of the plan “Toma nota, recicla vidrio”, in which 4.000 establishments from the Valencian coast participate, with the cooperation of 40 city councils like Alicante, Valencia, Elche, Benidorm o Benicàssim.

The objective of this campaign is to increase the glass recycling rate in the hospitality industry, which is why information is provided to the hotel or restaurant owner as well as the means to make recycling easier and containers adapted to the hospitability industry professionals, since this industry disposes of 50% of the single-use glass bottles and jars in the market.

Moreover, the study reflects that Valencians prefer going to the beach in the morning and with company, either with family (46,3%), with their partner (30,2%) or with friends (14,2%).

During the time they spend on the beach, sunbathing and swimming are their favourite activities, followed by reading, having a drink with a snack, listening to  music, going for a walk or practicing sports.

And, of course, we also associate the beach with going to a beach bar or similar. 40,8% of Valencians enjoy eating some tapas, 34.2% prefer the paella and 15,2% opt for the menu of the day.

Therefore, establishments should take these changes in the habits of Valencians holidaymakers into account because caring about sustainability and the environment is becoming a trend.
